Poster for the exhibition Woman Art Power 2

We keep saying that art is freedom, but does the history of women in art really confirm this claim? Is the freedom we talk about equally accessible for everyone? Has it ever been? The exhibition Woman Art Power 2 attempts to answer these questions – and maybe rather poses them again, from a new perspective. It is the voice of women who recapture space, narration and the right to speak their own language through art.

We present the work of twenty artists – women of various experiences, temperaments and sensitivity. They share one thing: a need for autonomy and authenticity as well as a conviction that art can be an instrument of real change. This diversity – spanning emotions, techniques, forms and stances – reveals the power of the project. Each artist addresses themes she finds urgent: the body, memory, relations, identity, spirituality, social role and limitations. Their works spin parallel threads in one tale – about femininity which cannot be closed in a single definition.

The social images of femininity keep changing – they are negotiated, challenged, redefined. Woman Art Power is part of the process, offering a view on the present through the eyes of artists who explore how the ideals of the body are formed, how the concepts of sex and identity evolve, how femininity – free from stereotypes – becomes a creative force. Their art is not exclusively an aesthetic gesture. It is a form of expression, a commentary, sometimes protest.
